About The Provider
Dr. Mehul Raval practices general pediatric surgery and surgical oncology. He treats newborns, infants, and children with a range of conditions spanning from the newborn period through young adulthood. He has extensive experience in neonatal surgery, endocrine surgery, minimally invasive surgery, surgical correction of congenital anomalies/prenatal consultation, chest wall deformities (including pectus excavatum/carinatum), hepatobiliary surgery, gall bladder removal, splenectomy, colorectal surgery, endoscopy, thoracic surgery, Hirschsprung’s disease, gastrointestinal surgery, and trauma surgery.
In his clinical practice, he is particularly interested in conditions related to the thyroid and in using minimally invasive surgical techniques including robotic-assisted surgery. Dr. Raval strives to care for his patients as he would care for his own children. He is passionate about healing kids so that they can quickly recover and get back to living a fun-filled life.
As a physician-scientist, Dr. Raval’s research focuses on improving the outcomes in children’s surgical care. A large portion of his work has revolved around quality and patient safety.
Dr. Raval has authored more than 175 peer-reviewed publications and over a dozen chapters. He has served as a co-investigator on a $3.5 million grant from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the development of pediatric devices and was awarded a $1.1 million R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality, to research the added value of surgical procedures performed in a children’s hospital.
Dr. Raval serves as the Principal Investigator on a $3.5m NIH-funded study to evaluate the implementation of enhanced recovery protocols for children undergoing gastrointestinal surgery including patients with Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. This study represents the largest ongoing quality improvement study of its type and is actively enrolling patients at 18 hospitals United States.
He serves on national committees and has held leadership roles for the Association of Academic Surgery, American Pediatric Surgery Association, American College of Surgeons, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
All physicians, physicians’ assistants, and nurse practitioners are independent contractors and are not the agents or employees of Silver Cross Hospital.
