Gary Altwerger, MD

Dr. Gary Altwerger is a dual board‑certified OB/GYN and Gynecologic Oncologist practicing with University of Chicago Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Buffalo University in New York, completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale New Haven University, and went on to complete a prestigious fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Yale University.

Dr. Altwerger specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers, including ovarian, uterine, cervical, and vulvar cancers. His clinical interests include advanced surgical techniques, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and comprehensive cancer care that integrates medical therapy, surgery, and survivorship support. He is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient‑centered care and advancing treatment options through research and innovation.
